MapMyRide.com provides easy-to-use, comprehensive web-based cycling tools to measure distance and count calories.

In the last few months I’ve stirred up my ambition for cycling again. I would clasify myself as a Professional Cyclist. A few reasons for this -- other than the obvious colour coded uniform I do infact put up a fight in sprints against other cyclists. I go cycling most afternoons and complete about 38 km.

In recent months statistics have shown that cycling is becoming more and more common. Whether this is due to the amount of cars on the road or people just taking the initiative with Carbon Emissions. There has been such an increase in cycling that I would say about 2% of Townsville’s population cycles regularly.

There is one thing that really irates me. Yes, you guessed it. Drivers not giving way when the bike has right of way. Bastards!

If you have an ambition for professional cycling. I recommend going for it and training hard. I took the step and upgraded from my commuter mountain bike to a nice Avanti Road bike. (Below is a video of it)

The iphone by MapMyRide allows for easy integration with the services offered by mapMyRide. It has the ability to show you the route while cycling through using your iphone’s 3G connection. Software also work on iPod touch -- minus the real-time directions.

Using MapMyRide.com iPhone app, I was able to utilize the GPS chip and track my bike ride on April 19, I was able to log the distance and the exact path I took coming home. It’s free and pretty neat. The only downside is it used up a ton of battery. So not recommended if it’s your emergency phone. I’ll try and post my other rides when I get around to it. Seems like one of the brightest ideas I’ve ever heard. For instance your fridge is one of the only household appliances which is left on 24/7 even most times when you are away. Well, why this talk about a fridge being sent a text message?

A fridge receiving a text message is the result of 4 tears intense research by a group called, Hydra. Hydra is responsible for this new technology that can be installed on a smart phone. It communicates with an appliance and carries out a set task based upon the given instruction. One use of this would be if you were to ever go on a holiday and you forgot to put that last load of washing on? All you’ve got to do is send a message to your fridge and it will tell your Washing machine to start. If your fridge is unable to send the message it defaults to using your PC or other specified appliance. It is believed that this technology, CeBIT will one day be available in the retail industry.

This week Youtube has added a pretty cool feature. Youtube viewers who may have hearing difficulties or unable to interpret English can set a caption. This technology on the Youtube website is currently still in Beta testing. Although, works well once video makers know how to use it. I viewed a youtube video of myne online this evening with captions. I sat their and laughed. It was funny to see what Google interpreted my clear voice as being. View this video for more details: Blue Screen Joy

Fridges talk to washing machines at high-tech CeBIT fair in Germany

At the time of writing this article Youtube Captions is still in beta testing. Hopefully it improves somewhat in the year to come.

In our show we also featured a section about a tragic freak accident that resulted in the fatility of a 42 year old woman named Jenny. Jenny was walking to work when a tractor slasher sent a pole flying through the air that struck Jenny’s head. A police officer at the scene said that it had been the worst fatality that she has seen in 15 years of police work. Fore more information view this article.

MURAKA ‘Jenny’ Vearncombe was engaged and about to celebrate her daughter’s 21st birthday when her life was cut short by a tragic twist of fate.

Join with us as we explore ICT in both a university context and school context. How would it be if Apple was to push for the iPad as being an ICT. It would enable schools and universities to use the iPad as an effective learning tool. Even Apps could be developed for an iPhone or iPod that update information to do with their current subjects and assessments. Kind of like a study personalized app.

ICT can be used to find, explore, analyze, exchange and present information responsibly and without discrimination. It give users quick access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities and cultures.

Google Docs was used for over 500 students to collaborate on a reading from a university lecturer. Isn’t this just a prime example of how ICT can improve our lifestyles.

It is believed that ICTs could play a major role in saving our world’s education crises.

The Australian Seven PM Project has found that many Australian’s still are interested in the British Monarchy.. Just not into British Royals other than Prince Harry. A poll has by British media company ITN and Australia’s Seven Network found that 58 percent of about 1,200 Australians surveyed last weekend said William should be the next monarch after Queen Elizabeth while 30 backed Charles.

Doesn’t it just seem that every site we thought we were safe on 2 years ago seems to have huge security issues. Such as that of Google and Twitter. Site’s that serve 1000’s of users every day are being hacked. What can we do ?

Well, don’t use internet Explorer that’s for sure. France is even thinking of Banning Internet Explorer due to its huge Security Flaws. Not only Google can be hacked but even a Jewish news paper has had its security exploited.

“BBQ like you’ve never done before!” That is what Australian’s should be doing on Australia Day 2010.

Well, this is what CNET has released. Apparently Google will be shutting down operations in Google on allogations of attackers trying to gain access to confidential GMAIL records stored in Google’s Data Centre’s located in China. In China it is pretty hard to store information due to the political state of China in 2010. For more information just search China in Wikipedia.

IT MUST have seemed like a good idea at the time. But no sooner had Kraft trumpeted the name of its new Vegemite variant, iSnack 2.0, than it was met with almost universal condemnation by customers. You know this reminds me of the controversial iRan and iStack. I wonder whether the iSnack 2.0 is compatible with non Kraft Products cause the iPhone Bluetooth isn’t compatible with others.
Well check back soon for Episode #3 Kraft iSnack 2.0 Rant.
I shall leave you with this Youtube Clip.

Here are 10 ideas to help you get thinking about advertising and marketing:

Online Local Business Directories – A few local Australian Directories include Gumtree.com.au and Hotfrog.com.au
Google Maps – Submit Your Business Address
Yellow Pages – Adding you business to the Yellow Pages (About $290)
Coffee Shop Advertising – Ask the owner of the shop whether you can place business cards on the counter. I’ve been doing this for $20 a month. Very Effective.
